At the earth's edge, where infinity exists and all else ceases to impress. I gaze into and across the divide. I can't hike more that 5 minutes at a time before I have to stop and take in a slightly different angle. Memorizing, holy, and just plane fantastic. This place overwhelms me. It's been years since my last visit and still the size belittles me.

There are busses now taking visitors to roads end. The impact of the most visited US National Park was hard so the park service had to take control. At first I was taken aback but after a day I actually liked it. I could take a bus to one of view points, get off and walk to the next point getting on the bus again and ridding to the next one, and hiking again. It was a treat. The car impact was gone and except for a bus passing every 12 minutes there was silence to be found.

This was the first time in many years that I put on a loaded day pack and went for a hike. I did two separate hikes of a bit more than a mile each. Over rough rock and at 7,000 ft above sea level. At the end of the day I was beat. It dawned on me the profound impact loosing over 50 lbs at the Optimum Health Institute did for me when putting on a 20 lb. day pack took me out. What about putting on a 50 lb. pack. NO THANKS!

I decided to take the Desert View way from Flagstaff. Gradually I descended from Flagstaff and drove over a long flat desert then we began to climb.

How does one try to get the depth and the immensity of the Grand canyon? I found at the view points these cast iron posts. These castings were indicative on the early 1930's and other projects done by the CCC. They are a good 1" thick with gussets caste as one solid piece. Similar to older good machine castings. Check out the styling of the curve and the non-verticle alignment of the rail holes. Very cool!

Does one try to take the canyon with a reference item like a tree and some rock your standing on?

OR, do we shoot onto the abbess, the decent to the center of the earth...

Then there are rock walls and rock walls and more rock walls. What to do?

So easy to get lost here trying to express the inexpressible.
