Introduction to Paintings

The following paintings I have done came from my travels through the Australian outback, mountains, deserts, jungles, and the quiet, inspirational beauty of Maui, Hawaii. The images I create are used as a medium expressing the energy of life. Their is something "behind" what we ‘see’.

While traveling through the Australian outback I found myself tapping to a subtle beat. It seemed to be part of me, it came from everywhere and nowhere at once. Not quite the beat of a human heart. As I allowed myself to experience this pulse it seemed to be more like waves, undulating. I experienced the sun light, the trees and the bushes emanating this rhythm. It echoed through the "pointillist" art of the Aboriginal, the Locusts, digeridos, oceans, and the clouds. I listened to the drumming from various tribal lands noticing how often the designs of life replicated one-another. As I went deeper so I experienced a greater and greater spaciousness.

I had to develop a way to express myself and share this phenomenon; to experience the emptiness life is made from, a method that empowered me to sculpt the energy.

I needed to get personal with the energy, it wanted to have depth, and fantastic brilliant color that not only suggests the existence of the "Other" but becomes a living experience of the moment. Various papers, including hand made paper, fine clay based pastels, oil pastels, watercolors, gouache, and a variety of tools to create texture and relief gave me the raw ingredients to co-create these happenings.

Space has rhythm, light has movement reflecting sound and solid. These images are about intimacy; get close, look, feel, discover. Listen to your breath. See if you can taste the pulse and be with the love.
